Advancing Change
Collaborating on progress for women in the workplace
We believe that big ships turn the tide. AWIN membership, with its roster of regional, national, and global organizations, represents a unique opportunity for major employers to collaborate and learn from each other. Here's how we Advance Change for women in the workplace:
- Recognizing and sharing innovation that is working. In 2024 we staged our inaugural Advancing Innovation Awards, recognizing members for programs that are making major change. The candidates were self-nominated and independently judged. Profiles of these programs are shared to enable other members to implement them.
- Executive Roundtables: Twice each year we offer a small-group, peer roundtable discussion to the C-suite executives of our member organizations on key issues. This peer interaction opportunity that crosses industries has been highly valued by members.
- Best-practice sessions: Virtual programs featuring content on practical application of high-interest initiatives enables members to learn easily from each other.
AWIN Research Projects
2023 Member Benchmark Study
In 2023, AWIN conducted its third benchmark survey of member organizations, measuring progress as it relates to the status of women in leadership, policies supporting women and families, and more. The aggregate results are available below, which includes a report comparing results across the past three years of benchmark studies and national data. Questions about the report may be submitted to AWIN Executive Director Eve Hutcherson, eve@advancingwomeninnnashville.com.

2021 Member Benchmark Study
In 2021, AWIN commissioned two research studies, one of policies and practices in member companies in Middle Tennessee and the second a repeat of its 2019 study on gender representation in managerial positions in the Nashville metro area. The first was conducted anonymously, and the aggregate results are available below. The latter report was produced by the Data Sciences Institute at Middle Tennessee State University and may be downloaded below. Questions about the report may be submitted to its author, Dr. Amy Harris, at amy.harris@mtsu.edu, or to AWIN Executive Director Eve Hutcherson, eve@advancingwomeninnashville.com.
2019 Gender Representation Study
Gender Representation in Managerial Occupations in Greater Nashville
AWIN commissioned this report to analyze gender representation in managerial occupations for the Nashville metropolitan area. The report analyzes job volume, compensation, growth (past and present), and demographic data in order to better understand the local managerial workforce. To provide context, the results for regional managerial occupations are compared to results for the regional workforce as a whole, as well as to the results for statewide and national managerial occupations. Detailed data are also provided for each of the 31 managerial occupations included in the study.
The report was produced by Middle Tennessee State University’s Data Science Institute. Questions and other requests can be submitted to the report’s author at amy.harris@mtsu.edu.
